SENIOR SPOTLIGHTS

Clare Carlson

High School: I am graduating from O'Gorman High School this spring.

College Choice: I am undecided on where I will be attending in the fall, but I am hoping to major in business.

Favorite Skating Memory: I have been fortunate enough to have lots of fun memories while skating with SFFSC. Some of my favorites include passing my Senior Moves in the Field, creating the iconic "skate moms," competing on South Dakota's first Theater on Ice Team, and landing my double jumps.

Why/How You Started Skating: I started skating around the age of four! My mom was a figure skater, so she took me to open skate and I have been doing it ever since. Figure Skating has been a very crucial part of my life and I am very thankful for the friends, memories, and life lessons it has taught me.

Skating Goals/Ambitions in the Future: I hope to continue skating at where ever I end up attending and join their figure skating team. I also hope to coach in my future! Thank you SFFSC for all the fun over the years, I will miss you all!"

A HUGE congratulations to Clare for passing her Senior Moves in the Field test - This is an enormous accomplishment that only 3% of skaters ever achieve! Thank you for being an inspiring light in our program for so many years! We look forward to seeing where the world will take you.

Margaret Ann Mickelberg

High School: I'm Margaret Ann Mickelberg and I am graduating from Lincoln High School this spring!

College Choice: I am planning to attend Boston University in their CGS Boston-London program to eventually complete a degree in Chemistry or Physics.

Favorite Skating Memory: I have too many favorite memories from skating: Filming "Skate Moms" around the rink, hanging out with the club at the hotel in New Ulm, going to multiple skating camps, and being a part of the first National TOI team of SD.

Why/How You Started Skating: My dad grew up in the skate-state of Minnesota so he strapped skates on my feet when I could walk and signed me up for my first lessons when I was five or six! I know skating has created the person I am today and I'm so grateful for, and never forgetful of, the community I've grown up with; friends, families, coaches, and my own students

Skating Goals/Ambitions in the Future: I'm excited for the next 4 years to train and/or compete with BUFSC and hopefully be a part of Boston American Ice Theater!”

Thank you for being such an important part of the Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club, Margaret Ann. We will miss you!

Julia Salter

High School: O'Gorman

College Choice: Regis in Colorado studying Philosophy and Religious Studies

Why/How You Started Skating: My mom worked for Ice Sports Association (group that started the Iceplex). She asked if I wanted to try it and I ended up loving it!

Thank you for being an inspiring light in the Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club, Julia! You will be missed

Hannah Miller

High School: I am Hannah Miller and I am graduating from Lincoln High School this spring.

College Choice: I am currently undecided as to where I will be attending college this coming fall, but I plan to major in exercise science.

Favorite Skating Memory: With the many years of being part of the SFFSC I have been lucky enough to make great memories with an amazing group of skaters, but my favorite is these past four years of progressing through USFS testing to my current levels of Senior Moves in the Field and Novice Free Skate with Coach Sarah.

Why/How You Started Skating: I started figure skating in 2007 when I was three years old. My sister was already involved in figure skating, so my parents decided it would be a good sport for me to join in with her. I am beyond grateful for my parent's decision and the relationships I have had the opportunity to make with coaches, fellow skaters, and my little skaters.

Skating Goals/Ambitions in the Future: Wherever I do end up going I hope to be able to continue skating here and there. If coaching is available there, I plan on continuing."

Thank you for being an integral part of the Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club for so many years, Hannah! You will be missed.
