THEATER ON ICE (TOI)

Combines the grace of figure skating with the excitement of theatre and dance.

Theater On Ice 2023-24 Team Information

SD Stars - Team Skating

General Information:
Theater On Ice (TOI) is the combination of skating, dance, and theater into one competitive sport designed to enhance skaters’ rhythm, presentation, and collaboration skills. TOI also includes aspects of singles, pairs, and synchronized skating.

As a member of the Theater On Ice Team, the SD Stars skaters will participate because they love the sport of figure skating, want to continue to grow their skills, and desire the benefits that come with skating on a team.

New this year, the Theater On Ice Team will have the unique opportunity to potentially compete in different types of events at competitions with the primary goal of challenging and inspire the athletes to perform and improve their individual skills.

Theater On Ice Team Commitment:
The SD Stars practice at the Scheels IcePlex located in Sioux Falls, SD. Additionally, the SD Stars will compete in 3 competitions and 2 show performances throughout the duration of the season. SD Stars skaters may make appearances on occasion, will perform at a Sioux Falls Stampede game both for practice as well as to raise money for the team, and will commit a minimum of 30 minutes a week to the team.

Eligibility:
The unity and camaraderie of our team are of the highest importance, the ability to work well with others is a necessity.

Skaters will sign up for TOI and will be coached on how to perform as one large group with all ability levels, as well as separated into groups based on level and ability. Our hope this year is to have one, two, or three different teams that compete in either Team Compulsory and/or Ensemble events at the ISI competitions listed below.

Skaters in teams that will compete in team compulsory will be assigned 2 - 3 elements to master to aid their team’s performance and ability to move up or flex skaters throughout a program.

The emphasis remains on building individual skating skills, performing skills while also promoting and learning how to skate, and work as a team while building leadership skills and growing friendships.

All Skaters Basic 6 (ISI Delta) and above are welcome to enroll.

All SD Stars skaters must hold both ISI and USFS memberships.

Practice will take place weekly on Thursday evenings.

Attendance:

TOI is a team sport that requires every team member to know their part and perform as part of a team.  If one skater cannot practice their part, the rest of the team pays the price. On-time attendance at all practices is critical for safety considerations and so that each athlete properly develops and has the opportunity to learn their team responsibilities.

SFFSC encourages the importance of teamwork, team building, and practice for safety and athlete development.  While SFFSC encourages athlete participation in other sports and extracurricular activities, please understand that by joining our program, you have made a commitment to the Theater on Ice team.

The Attendance Policy is as follows:
  • 1-week prior approval for all planned absences. More notice is appreciated.
  • Skaters are expected to be on time (on time is at least 5 minutes early ready to go!). The expectation is athletes will be on time for practice and participate in pre-practice warm-ups, etc.

Coaches will address excused absences and playing time accordingly.  When a player knows that he/she is going to be absent or late, he/she has the responsibility to notify their coach in advance, otherwise, it will be treated as an unexcused absence. Also, Coaches understand that occasional school conflicts arise, and we prioritize academics first. However, we also expect players to use good time management skills to complete schoolwork and attend practice.

The cost to participate in this program is $750.00 per skater for the season.
