SKATE CAMPS
SHOOTING STARS
Summer Skate Camp hosted by SFFSC
We are Excited to Announce the Shooting Stars Summer Camp!
Registration Will Be Opening Soon
Our camp activities focus on developing new friendships, self-confidence, and skating skills in an encouraging and safe environment. The progressive programs that we offer will challenge each skater at an appropriate level, giving our beginner skaters the opportunity to learn fundamental skating skills and explore the different aspects of figure skating while also providing our more experienced skaters with the resources to expand their skills and excel. We pride ourselves on creating positive experiences and lasting memories for each skater.
Dates:
Shooting Stars Summer Skate Camp: Both sessions are designed for new skaters through the experienced skater (Basic 1 - Free Skate 6).
Agenda:
Group Placement:
Skaters will be placed into groups based on both age and skating level, groups will consist of 8-10 skaters. Skaters are able to request to be in the same group as a friend or sibling.
New skaters, with little to no experience are welcome, the Shooting Stars camp is the perfect place to start! On the ice these skaters will be introduced to elements found in the LTS USA curriculum!
Skaters with more experience and working on jumps, spins and other advanced skills will be placed in our high-performance on-ice group and will receive individualized coaching to aid in the advancing of their skills.
Cost:
OR
Includes:
Off-Ice Rotations:
Jumps & Spins: In this rotation, skaters will build strength, flexibility, and control while also learning and practicing jumps and spins off-ice. Coaches will utilize the off-ice jump harness to teach proper air position.
Team Building & Choreography: Skaters will grow closer to their group mates through participation in a variety of team-building activities. Working as a team to solve problems is an important part of being successful in skating. Skaters will also spend some time choreographing off-ice.
Dance & Yoga: This rotation will give skaters the opportunity to relax while also building skills that are important for their skating journeys. Many skaters use dance and yoga as ways to improve their strength and flexibility.
On-Ice Rotations:
Jumps & Spins: Skaters will learn and practice jumps and spins that are appropriate for their age and level. For some skaters this may be their first introduction to jumping and spinning on the ice while others may be polishing their jumps and spins.
MITF/Footwork: Turns, edges, and other fundamental skills must be developed before skaters are able to advance to higher levels. Skaters will focus on the turns, edges, or other skills that are in their LTS USA level.
Practice & Games: Skaters will have 15 minutes of free skate each day. Coaches will also lead skaters in fun group games at this time!
Other Activities:
Each day skaters will get the chance to build friendships, creativity, and sportsmanship during the craft as well as group game. These two activities are highlights of our camper's days at Shooting Stars Camp!
What will my skater get out of camp?
Our Shooting Stars camp will not only focus on building skating skills in a fun and exciting environment but also encourage each child to step out of their comfort zone, make new friends, and create lifelong memories.
Skaters will begin the week by setting goals for themselves with the guidance of their head coaches. This process of goal setting and then working to achieve those goals is a rewarding lesson that applies to skating and other areas of growth.
Skating is a sport that pushes children to gain self-confidence, responsibility, and creativity. Even in a short week, we hope that our skaters leave camp feeling proud of their accomplishments and driven to continue achieving their goals.
Our Staff:
Our coaches include high school, college students, and other adult professionals who have extensive experience working in our club’s Learn to Skate program. We will also have junior coaches working alongside our senior coaches throughout the week. Our coaches are all caring and compassionate individuals who are motivated to share their love for skating with others! All junior and senior coaches hold a coaching certification through LTS USA and many have additional certifications through either ISI or USFS. SFFSC coaches attend monthly training sessions, and our camp coaches will attend additional training before the week begins.
Packing List:
We recommend sending your skater to camp in leggings (or other long pants… preferably no jeans) with a short-sleeved T-shirt and tennis shoes. This way they will stay comfortable, even for outdoor activities, but do not have to completely change before getting onto the ice.
Please send your skater with the following each day:

PAST CAMPS
ASPIRE MINI CAMP
hosted by SFFSC
This fun and instructive mini camp will introduce skaters and their parents to ASPIRE, Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club’s group lesson program for skaters ready to take the next step in their skating journey!
The Aspire Mini Camp is open to skaters in Basic 1-Freeskate 4 and will include both on and off ice instruction to foster your child’s love of skating and teach them new skills to get ahead in class! Skaters will be grouped by level.
For those whose skater already participates in ASPIRE, this camp will be a great opportunity for your skater to continue strengthening their skating skills that they are developing each week. More time on the ice is always encouraged to speed up skill development. Plus, this should be a fun day for ASPIRE skaters to get to know each other better while also getting the chance to meet new friends!
Please watch this page to find out when we will hold the next Aspire Mini Camp.
