Class Description
2009-2010
The following classes/practice sessions are offered by Sioux Falls Figure Skating Club for the 2008-2009 season. The sessions are contracted on a session-by-session basis. There are three eight-week sessions offered from October 2008 through April 2009. Below is a brief description of the classes and practice sessions offered ~
Standard Classes
- Tot 1 through Freestyle 4 classes - group lesson – A group instruction of the required testing elements for the specific figure skating levels as outlined in the ISI rulebook.
- Hockey Skating Skill group lesson – A group instruction of the required testing elements for the specific hockey levels as outlined in the ISI rulebook. Skates, helmet, gloves required for levels 1-4, shin pads & stick for level 4 and up.
Specialty Classes
- Edges, Turns and Twizzles - This class will strengthen skating skills by developing edges, turns, twizzles, brackets, 3-turns, mohawks, etc. Must be in Freestype 1 or up.
- Basic Spins – A group instruction of the basic spins of figure skating ~ scratch, sit, camel, & layback spins. Must be in Delta or up.
- Advanced Spins – A group instruction of the advanced spins ~ flying camel, flying sit, illusions, combination spins, etc. Must be in Freestyle 5 or up.
- Basic Jumps – A group instruction of the basic jumps ~ salchow, toe loop, loop, flip, and lutz jumps. Must be in Delta or up.
- Axels, Axels, & more Axels – yup, just Axels. This group class will focus on the technique required to perform the Axel jump – single and double!!. Will also use the jump harness when necessary. Must be in Freestyle 4 or up.
- Double Jumps – A group instruction of all appropriate double jumps. This class will introduce double jumps and jump combinations and sequences. As the skaters progress the skills introduced will increase in difficulty. Must be in Freestyle 5or up.
- Ice Dance – A group instruction of the basic ice dance steps, techniques, and patterns. Must be in Freestyle 1 or up.
- Low-Power – A mild on-ice workout. This class will strengthen basic skating edges and stroking while helping the skater become stronger, faster, and sturdier on their blades. Recommended for any skater in Alpha – Freestyle 1.
- High-Power – A vigorous on-ice workout focusing on developing edges, turns, twizzles, brackets, 3- turns, Mohawks, etc. Must be in Freestyle 1 or up.
- Special Skater – A group instruction for skaters with disabilities.
- Adult – A group instruction of a variety of elements for adult skaters. As each skater progresses the skills introduced will increase in difficulty.
- Show group classes – A group performance choreographed to a specific song as according to the Holiday/Spring Show theme (song to be decided by show director). Costume included and information will be provided.
- Duet/Trio Show – A performance of 2+ skaters to a song according to the Holiday/Spring Show theme. No costume/instruction provided. Song must be approved by the show director at time of registration.
PRACTICE SESSIONS:
- Open Practice – Practice ice open to any level. Ice available for practice/private lessons.
- Open Freestyle/Competitor – Practice ice open to all Freestyle skaters and competitors for practice/private lessons.
- High Freestyle – Practice ice open to all Freestyle skaters in Freestyle 5 or up. You are encouraged to participate in as many classes and practice sessions as you choose. Many of these classes are intended to supplement the skill classes. You are required to participate in at least one SKILL class each session in order to participate in any shows or competitions.
